Connector

Column Connectors

Column connectors are used:
- To connect a guard column or retention gap:
A short capillary column (ca. 2 m) with no stationary phase can be connected to the head of the analytical capillary column in order to protect the column or focus the sample, respectively
- For true on-column injection:
Any capillary columns can be used by connecting a short wide-bore capillary column to the inlet of the column
- To connect broken capillary columns
- To connect 2 columns

To ensure a correct connection, it is necessary to cut the ends of capillary columns properly.

Shimadzu offers two types of column connectors:

Glass-Lined Stainless-Steel Joint

This is a compact stainless-steel joint to connect capillary columns. The glass lining minimizes adsorption of sample components.

P/N Capillary OD [mm] Description
670-11424-11 0.4 Mini-union (with 5 pcs graphite ferrules)
670-11424
670-11424-12 0.5
670-11424-13 0.8
670-11424-21 0.4 - 0.5 Graphite Ferrule (10 pcs)
670-11424
670-11424-22 0.8

For most fused silica capillary columns: 0.4 mm OD = 0.10 - 0.25 mm ID; 0.5 mm OD = 0.32 mm ID; 0.8 mm OD = 0.53 mm ID.

Stainless Steel Joint

This is a compact stainless-steel joint to connect capillary columns.

P/N Description
225-19057

Union connector 1/16 with joint and both side’s nuts;

male-female; with 2 ferrules (Graphite) 0.5 mm bore

Press-Tight Connector

221-38102-91

This connector enables an easy connection without the need of ferrules. When the columns are coated with polyimide resin, the connection will remain tight and leak-free for longer.

For capillary columns with 0.35 - 0.8 mm OD (usually 0.1 - 0.53 mm ID).

P/N Description
221-38102-91 Press-Tight Connector (5 pcs)
221-38102-92 Press-Tight Connector (5 pcs with 5 g polyimide resin)
